Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati asserted the importance of accelerating efforts exerted to achieve sustainable development especially the sixth goal on the water sector.
This came in Abdel Aati’s virtual participation in a session under the rubric “desalinating water.. local approaches to manage water and handle climate” held as part of the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week 2022 (MENACW22).
He asserted the importance of boosting integration between the files of water and climate especially that the phenomenon of climate change became a reality.
Abdel Aati pointed out to the increasing effect of climate on some countries around the world, adding that this year is a good chance to highlight the water challenges at the international level and its relations with climate change.
He necessitated coordinating efforts with the different UN organisations in the sector of water.
He pointed out to Egypt’s hosting of COP 27 in November which will focus on the African challenges in the water field and the impact of the climate change on water.
He necessitated putting national plans and policies in the countries of the world and assessing the current national plans in addition to raising the awareness and increasing the abilities in the field of climate change in the different countries and taking the necessary measures to achieve the goals of sustainable development concerned with water.
Egypt is working on merging the water issues in the national strategy to adapt its plans to climate, he said.
Egypt put a national plan for the water resources of 2037 with 50 billion dollars investment which is expected to be increased to 100 billion dollars, he said.
