The Egyptian Ministry of the Interior revealed on Monday the truth behind the fabricated leaks of one of the state institutions as part of the ministry’s efforts to protect the country from criminal schemes by hostile entities, especially the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist group.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said that such groups aim at jeopardizing the security of the country and undermining its capabilities.
According to the ministry, media outlets affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood group promoted a phone conversation between a person claiming to be Major General Farouk Al-Qadi with a woman named Mervat Mohamed, who claimed to be a presidential advisor.
In their conversation, the man claimed to have manifold relations with many state officials and would facilitate for the woman the issuance of contracts to carry out a number of major projects that the state is establishing in various fields, with the aim of making profits.
The National Security Sector was able to reveal the circumstances of the aforementioned phone conversation and arrest those involved.
It was found that the first was named Hanafi Abdel Razek Al-Sayyid Mohamed, 61, who is unemployed and resides in Cairo.
He is a registered fraud criminal and had previously been accused and sentenced in 22 cases, varying from swindling, wrongful killing and excavating antiquities. The second is named Mervat Mohamed Ali Ahmed Al-Badawi, 52 who is a holder of a law degree and resides in Alexandria.
Investigations revealed that they did not previously work in any of the state institutions or government agencies.
The ministry added that the so-called Abdel Razek recorded the telephone conversation to promote among those around him, especially a community of businessmen, in an effort to gain sufficient momentum and delude others of his multiple relations with various state officials and his ability to award contracts for the implementation of some major projects in the country to any person.
Abdel Razek convinced a 42-year-old broker named Wael Abdel Rahman who lives in Alexandria of the strength of his relations and the possibility of giving him opportunities to invest in the field of contracting at a later time.
In light of the fact that the so-called Abdel Rahman had faced financial trouble, he decided to communicate with the fugitive Muslim Brotherhood member Abdullah Al-Sharif and provide him with the aforementioned telephone conversation in exchange for a cash amount.
He sent it to him with a promise to send other calls on the same approach, but the fugitive Brotherhood did not give him the agreed-upon amount.
The necessary legal measures were taken, the accused were arrested and the mobile phone in question between the called Wael Abdel Rahman and the fugitive Brotherhood Abdullah Al-Sharif was seized.
The phone included the conversations between them in this regard.
