CAIRO – The Ministry of Interior has successfully thwarted a terror plot planned by the “Hasm” terrorist organisation.
The national security sector, in coordination with other security bodies, managed to identify the key operatives behind the plot.
The security bodies had received a tip-off regarding the involvement of leaders of “Hasm”, the armed wing of the Muslim Brotherhood movement., that is currently residing in Turkey, in an attempt to reactivate the group’s operations.
The plot involves carrying out terror attacks targeting security and economic facilities.
It also includes deploying a terror element, who had previously received advanced military training in a border country, to infiltrate Egypt illegally to carry out the plot.
The plot coincided with releasing a video, widely circulated on social media, showing Hasm members undergoing military-style training in a desert area in a neighboring country, threatening to carry out terrorist attacks on the Egyptian soil.
