Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad met on Thursday Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh in Cairo to discuss cooperation in supporting and implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The meeting was part of Egypt’s efforts to advance regional stability and alleviate the suffering Palestinians.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their firm rejection of attempts by the Israeli parliament to annex Palestinian territories, aligning with broader international consensus.
Vice President al-Sheikh highlighted the importance of Arab Summit resolutions concerning the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the pursuit of Palestinian national consensus.
The Palestinian News Agency said earlier that Thursday’s meeting follows up on al-Sheikh’s visit to Cairo on Wednesday.
It noted that the Palestinian vice president is accompanied in the visit by Palestinian intelligence chief, Majed Faraj.
The Palestinian officials made consultations during the visit with a host of Egyptian officials on the latest developments, following the cessation of hostilities in Gaza, the agency said.
Egypt prepares to host a pivotal conference on Gaza’s reconstruction, possibly next month.
The conference gives insights into Cairo’s commitment to regional peace and recovery efforts.
Egypt also facilitates talks among Palestinian factions to foster consensus on the implementation of the second phase of the US peace initiative for Gaza.
