Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir inspected on Thursday three factories specialized in engineering industries in 10th of Ramadan City.
The visit comes as part of the minister’s regular tours of industrial zones and factories to review production progress and resolve operational challenges.
The minister began his tour with a visit to Al-Ahram Group for Security Systems, a leading manufacturer of locks, cylinders, hinges, and a wide range of handles and related components. The factory is built on an area of 35,000 square meters, with a capital amounting to EGP 1.5 billion and an annual production capacity of 10 million cylinders.
The local content ratio is 100%. The company exports its products to markets in 27 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America and employs more than 1,200 workers.
The minister was received by Chairman of the Group Samir Aref,, along with a number of company executives. During the visit, the minister toured the production lines for locks and keys, the quality laboratory, the industrial wastewater treatment unit, and a showroom displaying the factory’s finished products.
During the tour, Wazir underlined the importance of achieving industrial integration among lock manufacturers to increase productivity and help narrow the import gap. He also emphasized the need to swiftly complete the accreditation procedures for the factory’s laboratory by the National Accreditation Council to enhance product quality and facilitate export access to foreign markets.
Additionally, the minister directed the Ministry’s affiliated bodies to take all legal measures against any fake or unlicensed industrial establishments operating randomly without industrial licenses or requirements, as such practices harm the quality and reputation of Egyptian products and negatively affect committed and serious factories.
The minister then inspected the Egypt Factory for Refrigeration Compressors and the Thermotech Water Heaters Factory (COTHERM – Thermotech Site), both affiliated with Fresh Home Appliances. The compressor factory is built on an area of 90,000 square meters with investments of EGP 350 million and a production capacity of up to 2.5 million compressors annually, with a local content ratio of 70%. About 20% of its production is exported to the Turkish market, and the factory provides approximately 360 direct job opportunities.
The facility is the only factory in the Middle East specialized in producing heaters and thermostats. It is built on an area of 3,300 square meters with investments of up to EGP 100 million. The factory’s annual production capacity reaches 4 million heaters and 2.6 million.
