Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nivine Gamea underlined Egypt’s keenness on promoting co-operation with international partners, especially with regard to climate change adaptation, the green recovery and energy resources diversification.
This came during a plenary meeting on Wednesday with representatives of the World Bank mission under Ayat Soliman, the Regional Director for the World Bank Group’s Sustainable Development Department for the Middle East and North Africa region.
The meeting tackled the latest developments concerning a report being prepared by the bank in collaboration with 25 states, including Egypt, on the impact of climate change and means of confronting it.
Gamea said the bank is one of the most prominent international financing institutions co-operating with Egypt in the field of combating climate change.
She stressed Egypt’s keenness on benefiting from the World Bank and the studies conducted by it on climate change.
She underlined the ministry’s interest in raising awareness among investors and manufacturers on the importance of taking into consideration environmental conditions and climate change in industrial activities and committing to environment protection standards.
She referred to the ministry’s efforts to rationalise energy consumption, green hydrogen, and agro-waste recycling.
For her part, Soliman said the bank will finalise a draft of the report by May, noting that the final report will be issued during the COP27, due to be held in Egypt this year.
The report focuses on three main axes; water, agriculture, adaptation programmes, and energy.
