Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated yesterday the congratulations extended him by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the occasion of Modi’s re-election for a third term in his country.
Modi’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a majority in the parliamentary elections, which concluded on June 4.
He expressed gratitude on X (formerly Twitter) for what he described as President Sisi’s ‘warm’ congratulations.
“Grateful for your warm words, President Sisi,” the Indian premier tweeted.
“Sustained engagement between India and Egypt has provided a new momentum to our ties,” he added.
He noted that he looked forward to working with the Egyptian leader on the road to attaining unprecedented heights in the years to come.
The Egyptian leader had earlier congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his re-election.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to Mr Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, with the Indian people reaffirming confidence in his leadership for a new term,” President Sisi wrote on X.
He added that Egypt looked forward to working with India in the coming period to open up broader prospects for enhancing historical relations with the Asian nation.
President Sisi noted that Egypt aspires to leverage the potentials available for its joint efforts with India.
“I wish the Indian prime minister success and the Indian people further development and prosperity,” President Sisi wrote.
The exchange of warm feelings between the leaders of the two countries comes hard on the heels of a series of significant visits and engagements between them.
President Sisi visited India in January 2023 as the chief guest on India’s 74th Republic Day. He was the first Egyptian president to receive this honour.
This visit marked a significant milestone in India’s relations with Egypt.
Indian Prime Minister Modi reciprocated with a state visit to Egypt in June 2023, during which he was awarded ‘the Order of the Nile’, Egypt’s highest state honour.
During the visit, the two leaders signed a joint declaration to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, emphasising their commitment to deepening ties across various sectors.
Collaboration between Cairo and New Delhi has also been reinforced through platforms like the G20 and BRICS, which have served to strengthen and expand the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
