President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on key regional and international developments.

The meeting underscored the depth of Egyptian-Russian relations and both sides’ commitment to advancing cooperation across multiple fields, including political, economic, and security affairs, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy said.

President El Sisi conveyed greetings through Mr Shoigu to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing Egypt’s appreciation for its close relations with Russia and the progress achieved under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries.

Mr Shoigu, for his part, conveyed President Putin’s warm regards to the Egyptian leader, emphasizing Russia’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral co-operation and maintaining ongoing political consultations on issues of mutual concern.

Discussions covered several regional and international matters. President El Sisi reaffirmed the need to continue efforts to achieve stability across the Middle East, safeguard the sovereignty and unity of its states, and protect the aspirations of their peoples, spokesman Shennawy said.

The Egyptian leader stressed the importance of fully implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to halt the war in Gaza in all its phases, ensuring a lasting ceasefire, and allowing unrestricted humanitarian aid to enter the Strip in sufficient quantities, spokesman Shennawy said.

In this connection, it was stressed that the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy remain the only path for achieving just and lasting peace in the region.

President El Sisi also reiterated Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and achieving a comprehensive peace, spokesman Shennawy said.

The talks further addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in political, trade, and investment sectors. The two sides reviewed progress made since President El-Sisi’s visit to Moscow in May 2025 to attend Victory Day celebrations, and discussed follow-up on agreements reached during that summit.

The meeting also touched on major joint projects, including the establishment of the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. President El-Sisi highlighted the importance of intensifying economic and investment cooperation, increasing trade exchanges, and boosting collaboration in tourism.

Mr. Shoigu further expressed Russia’s appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East, affirming that history will recall President El-Sisi’s substantial efforts in promoting regional stability, and reiterated Moscow’s commitment to continued coordination with Cairo. Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty, General Intelligence Director Major General Hassan Rashad and Presidential Advisor for National Security Affairs Fayza Aboulnaga attended the meeting. Attending from the Russian side were Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexander Venediktov, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko, Deputy Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service  Sergei Mikheev, Andrey Yevseyev from the Russian Security Council, and Maria Baneva from the Presidential Directorate for Foreign policy.
