The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has underlined important steps taken by the government to boost the production of green fuel in the field of maritime transport.
A report by the IDSC released Tuesday pointed out to an integrated strategy outlined by the government to produce green hydrogen in Egypt amid a growing world interest in green shipping.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is working to settle the green fuel industry in Egypt, the report noted.
It cited six memorandums of understanding signed in May 2022 between the SCZONE and global companies to implement green hydrogen and green ammonia projects to be used in ship refueling and exports.
In August 2022, seven more memorandums of understanding were signed to produce green hydrogen at the Ain Sokhna industrial zone, the report added.
A year later, the first green bunkering service was offered to the Maersk container ship, which arrived on East Port Said Port in August 2023, according to the report.
