The Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said on Saturday that Egypt has been ranked the 22nd among 67 countries in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2024.
Egypt came in the second place following Morocco in the Middle East and North Africa, the IDSC added in a statement.
The index, which is issued by German Watch corporation, highlighted measures adopted by Egypt to expand investments in the renewable energy projects, including encouraging reliance on the solar and wind energies.
Egypt has also promoted larger investments into fossil fuels, in particular fossil gas, according to the index.
The statement came on the occasion of the World Meteorological Day.
The Day is observed on March 23 and recognizes the vital role of the organization in advancing global efforts in weather, climate, and water management.
