Head of the State Information Service Diaa Rashwan announced on Thursday the extension of humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip for one day due to intensive Egyptian-Qatari efforts.
Ten Israeli captives and 30 Palestinian prisoners will be released as part of the last-minute agreement, Rashwan told Al Qahera News.
The extension will see the flow of more humanitarian assistance to northern and southern Gaza Strip, he added.
There are ongoing Egyptian-Qatari contacts to extend the humanitarian truce for additional two days in a bid to reach ceasefire, release more Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees and let more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, Rashwan said, stressing that intensive Egyptian-Qatari efforts helped overcome many obstacles that faced the implementation of the truce agreement today.
Rashwan said Egypt urges both parties to adhere to what was agreed upon and that it will continue to exert its utmost efforts to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid to the north and south of the Gaza Strip.
The humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip began on Friday morning, November 24, for four days after the Palestinian and Israeli parties agreed on its detailed terms with Egyptian-Qatari mediation and American sponsorship.
The deal provided for the release of 50 detainees in Gaza and 150 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and the entry of 130,000 liters of diesel and 4 gas-laden trucks to the Strip via the the Rafah terminal. Some 200 trucks loaded with food supplies, medicines and water also entered the Strip daily.
Then the truce was extended for additional two days under the same conditions. The extension agreement stipulates the release of 10 Israeli detainees in exchange for 30 Palestinian prisoners each day.
Today, the truce was extended for the seventh day.
