Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem el Gazzar held a meeting Monday to review the progress made so far in implementing the “Julius Nyerere” Hydropower Plant and Dam in Tanzania.

The dam is located in the Morogoro area on Rufiji River, Tanzania.

Gazzar said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi follows up on a regular basis the implementation of the project, which is carried out by an Egyptian consortium, and falls within the distinguished ties between the two countries.

The dam will generate electricity with capacity of 2115MW to satisfy energy needs in Tanzania Control water flow in the period of flooding and thus providing the necessary water requirement.

The main dam for storage of water is to generate hydropower using RCC concrete, with total length 1025 meters at crest level and 130 meters dam level.
