Egyptian Housing Minister Asem Gazzar said the Egyptian Green Building Council (GBC) aims to lay down policies and regulations in the green building domain that can be applied on the ground.
This is an important matter in view of Egypt Vision 2030, he said.
He referred to the major climate change challenges, topped by water scarcity, agricultural production and desertification.
Gazzar made the remarks on Wednesday while chairing first GBC meeting which was attended by Ministers Mohamed Shaker of Electricity, Hala Saeed of Planning and Yasmine Fuad of Environment.
In a statement on Wednesday, he said the concept of green building is very important in view of urban expansion in Egypt.
For his part, Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said the green building, reducing electricity consumption and depending on new and renewable energy resources will positively affect both humans and the environment.
Meanwhile, Planning Minister Hala Saeed underscored the importance of having an independent authority for putting into effect green building strategies.
Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said the strategic axes adopted by the council are very important, highlighting the importance of efficient use of natural resources and recycling solid waste.
