House finally okays draft law advancing date for paying annual increment, increasing pensions

The Egyptian House of Deputies, under Speaker Hanafi el Gebali, has finally approved a draft law to advance the date for disbursing annual increment and grant a special bonus to employees not addressed by the civil service law.

During its plenary session on Tuesday, the parliament okayed the draft law which also stipulates increasing additional bonus for civil servants and settling a special allowance for those working at the public and the public business sector companies.

The draft law also includes increasing pensions of civil servants and military personnel.

As per the bill, increment and pension increases shall be paid as of April 1 instead of July 1.

Annual increment shall be raised from 7% to 8%, according to the draft law.

Also yesterday, the HoD finally approved a draft law submitted by the government to amend some provisions of Law No. 82 of 2016 on Combating Illegal Migration and Smuggling of Migrants.

The bill is meant to combat illegal migration in accordance with relevant international frameworks and agreements via tightening some penalties on violators in order for them to be commensurate with the crimes committed.

This shall achieve deterrence in line with the objectives of the National Strategy on Combating Illegal Migration for 2016-2026.
