CAIRO – Director of the Remote Sensing Center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) Iman Shaker said hot weather will continue in the next days, as the country experiences the Indian summer monsoon that causes a rise in temperatures and humidity levels.
In a video posted by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), Shaker added the expected temperatures in Greater Cairo will range from 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, with temperatures reaching 34 and 45 degrees Celsius in the North Coast and Upper Egypt respectively.
She stated world countries are currently affected by El Niño phenomenon that leads to oceans’ warming and a rise in the atmosphere’s temperature, causing heatwaves in all countries, including the Middle East, and the South America, as well as Eastern and Western Europe.
El Nino is a naturally occurring pattern that drives increased heat worldwide, as well as drought in some parts of the world and heavy rains elsewhere.
Shaker added the World Meteorological Organization’s reports show the impact of El Nino would last till next year.
She advised citizens to avert direct exposure to sunlight and wear light cotton clothing that reflects the sun’s rays, along with drinking cold fluids and water periodically throughout the day.
