Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa met on Friday with Red Sea Governor Walid el-Barqi.
The two sides discussed means to expand co-operation on a range of development and public service projects across the governorate.
Konsowa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to harnessing scientific, research and academic capabilities of Egypt’s universities and research institutions in support of the country’s development agenda.
He said leveraging these resources would help deliver practical, evidence-based solutions to development challenges while advancing the state’s sustainable development goals.
The minister also underscored the importance of boosting partnerships between universities and local executive authorities to maximise the impact of scientific research and ensure its outcomes are aligned with community needs and national development priorities.
Konsowa further highlighted the ministry’s commitment to enhancing universities’ community role by expanding integrated medical, development and awareness convoys, particularly in remote and border areas, to improve access to essential services and support comprehensive development efforts.
The meeting reviewed prospects for co-operation on the Hurghada Visual Identity Project, one of the state’s flagship initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s architectural and cultural identity. The project seeks to redevelop streets, public squares, and public and private buildings under a unified visual identity that reflects Hurghada’s distinctive natural environment and reinforces its standing as one of Egypt’s premier tourist destinations.
The two sides also discussed ways to expand co-operation in organising integrated medical convoys across the Red Sea Governorate, as well as supporting infrastructure development, particularly in the electricity and drinking water sectors.
Konsowa directed the formation of specialist committees to explore expanding the use of renewable energy in remote areas and to develop a comprehensive master plan for extending drinking water services throughout the governorate.
For his part, El-Barqi welcomed the continued co-operation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressing the importance of drawing on the academic and scientific expertise of Egyptian universities to support the governorate’s development projects. He said closer collaboration in infrastructure, renewable energy and community services would help advance sustainable development and improve the quality of life for residents.
