CAIRO -The development of faculties of education in Egyptian universities was the focus of a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour and a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday .
Ashour spoke of his ministry’s keenness for further co-operation with USAID with regard to plans to develop colleges of education, training in the most up-to-date teaching methods.
The USAID delegation reviewed the $50 million Distinct Teacher Initiative to develop skills in teaching and student support in Egypt’s universities, which, in turn, will make Egyptian government education and research institutes more efficient.
The two sides discussed the possibility of implementing the five-year initiative in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to develop new study programmes in faculties of education in Egyptian universities in co-operation with leading American universities in this field.
USAID programmes promote professional development through a virtual teacher training platform, develop platform content, and improve teacher training.
The delegation said USAID is working with the Egyptian government to support universities and scientific research.
