More than 2.21 million citizens aged 65 and above have benefited from healthcare services provided under the ‘Elderly Healthcare Initiative’ since its launch in October 2022. The move is part of the presidential “100 Million Healthy Lives” campaign.
The initiative aims to improve the health and quality of life of elderly people through the early detection of non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, high blood cholesterol, kidney disease, anaemia and malnutrition, in addition to comprehensive clinical examinations, Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said on Saturday.
The initiative also offers a range of diagnostic and screening services, including electrocardiograms (ECGs), abdominal and liver ultrasound scans, eye examinations, oral and dental health assessments, and early detection of age-related cognitive and psychological disorders through approved screening questionnaires, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health on Saturday.
Beneficiaries receive a periodic follow-up card to monitor their health status, while cases requiring advanced medical intervention are referred to hospitals to complete treatment and receive specialised care, the statement said.
