CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghafar conferred on Monday with Country Director and Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Egypt Praveen Agrawal and the deputy director on means of boosting co-operation between the two sides and issues of common interest especially the presidential initiative for supporting public health.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the aspects of cooperation regarding the nutrition to school students through a campaign of awareness to students and parents and the balanced food meals that support the students’ public health.
The minister extended thanks to WFP on its efforts to back the healthy food programs in Egypt, voicing hope over extending existing programs and launching new ones.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghafar said the meeting covered the problem of micronutrient deficiency – also known as hidden hunger – and means of countering it through importing nutrients to children.
The meeting also discussed the future co-operation programmes as part of a five-year plan from 2023-2027 with the objective of elevating the citizens’ public health.
The WFP country director, for his part, expressed thanks to the minister for his permanent efforts to promote the health sector in Egypt and free it from diseases. He also asserted the programme’s backing for Egypt in all aspects that support the citizens’ health especially children.
