This came during a meeting between Abdel Ghaffar and Director-General of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa-CDC) Jean Kaseya, as part of efforts to strengthen African health partnerships.
The meeting tackled ways to enhance joint cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Africa CDC to support efforts aimed at advancing public health in Egypt and sister African countries.
The minister also stressed the importance of deepening partnership with Africa CDC to support health security on the African continent through strengthening joint action, exchanging expertise, and developing rapid response mechanisms to address emerging health challenges.
For his part, the ministry’s official spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the meeting addressed Egypt’s hosting of the Northern Africa regional Coordination Center (RCC), which focuses on capacity building for epidemic prevention and strengthening surveillance and health response systems in a number of member states.
He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to activate the center, drawing on its advanced infrastructure and global expertise in this field.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting also touched on Egypt’s efforts to support African countries by providing medical assistance and essential supplies, while emphasizing the importance of coordinating these efforts with the priorities of Africa CDC to maximize impact, particularly in the areas of vaccines and emergency supplies, as an expression of Egypt’s commitment to African solidarity and the promotion of public health across the continent.
