CAIRO – Egyptian Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said 35 per cent of patients suffering from heart and nervous system diseases can largely improve by practicing sports.

He added this is also applicable to tumors.

This came in his speech during a discussion panel on “sport is lifestyle” that was held on the sidelines of the Sports Expo Egypt 2023.

He said practicing sports incentivizes hormones protecting from tension, depression and anxiety.

He noted that psychological diseases are wide-spread worldwide, noting that 24.7 per cent of people in Egypt is suffering from psychological problems.

The head of the sports business institute of the Liverpool University said sports directly affect people’s public health and this reduces healthcare costs.

Addressing the discussion panel, she said this also contributes to reducing psychological diseases percentage.

Sports also contribute to improving people’s performance in their jobs, she said, adding that hosting major sports event and international championship enhances tourism.
