CAIRO – The Ministry of Local Development followed up on the remaining projects of the first phase of the presidential initiative “Haya Karima” throughout 2024 and prepared for the second phase. In the first phase, projects were implemented in 1,477 villages, with 68% of the budget allocated to Upper Egypt, covering 351 local projects (124 markets, 97 bus stations, 130 fire stations), in addition to 331 service complexes.
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, stated that the second phase of the initiative would cover 19 governorates, including 437 local units and 1,638 villages. The necessary land for the projects is being provided in collaboration with the local authorities.
Twenty-nine villages in Matrouh Governorate were selected to implement projects suited to the urban and social nature of Bedouin communities.
The total number of government service complexes under development is 332, with five fully operational and 291 partially operational. As for the status of receipt, 262 complexes were initially received, and 70 more are in the process of initial receipt.
A total of 315 meters for water and sewage were installed: 233 water meters and 82 sewage meters. Additionally, electricity meters were connected to 70 complexes. The postal authority received 313 sites for their services, and 268 postal sites were equipped and operational.
Training was completed for staff moving to 250 complexes, with a total of 7,827 employees trained.
The Cabinet approved a budget of 423 million EGP to equip the technological infrastructure for the service complexes, including computer equipment and accessories, to be distributed between this fiscal year and the next.
