SHARM El SHIEKH, Egypt – Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Sunday described the Green Zone in COP27 as the largest at COP summits.
Egypt has expanded the Green Zone to send an important message, as it is considered an unofficial area, where representatives of civil society, including international, regional and local associations, as well as experts, academics, youth, and private sector companies come together to offer innovative solutions for climate challenges, he added in a statement.
Africa needs very large support during the next stage to cope with climate change, the premier said.
The Green Zone’s design as a lotus flower reflects the ancient Egyptian civilisation, he added.
In turn, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said the Green Zone’s buildings are made of sustainable reused fabrics, wood and cork, while its artistic interiors showcase recycled materials.
Thematic days of COP27 cover: promoting finance, science, promoting youth and future generation participation, promoting mitigation and decarbonization, adaptation, agriculture and water, women, promoting energy, civil society and action for climate empowerment, biodiversity, and solutions, she added.
