Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Thursday met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cairo Elena Panova for talks on co-operation in social protection projects.
El-Qabbag expressed her appreciation for the strong partnership between the ministry and the UN in social justice programmes within the ‘National Partnership with the UN for Sustainable Development 2018-2022’.
The programmes cover care for newborns and small children, meeting the economic and social needs of vulnerable citizens, women’s empowerment, and safeguarding the rights of the disabled and the elderly.
The minister stressed the need for periodic follow-up meetings on the achievements of the social and economic protection programme for the investment in humans, implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of International Co-operation with all UN organisations since 2020.
The ministry has launched a digital platform to monitor the results of this programme, el-Qabbag said, adding that local communities must be kept up-to-date with the ministry’s achievements.
For her part, Banova hailed the fruitful co-operation between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and UN associations, saying that the ministry has the highest share of co-operation programmes with the UN in social justice.
This is reflected in the ministry’s connections with diverse international organisations concerned with childhood, women, family and population, refugees and pensioners.
Panova also praised the Egyptian government for its role in providing exceptional cash support for the vulnerable amidst the current economic challenges and raising the number of beneficiaries of the social protection programme Takaful and Karama.
