CAIRO – Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s Egypt Office Kato Ken said the Grand Egyptian Museum, expected to be opened soon, will be one of the most important symbols of the long history of Egypt-Japan cooperation and friendship.
In an interview with MENA, Ken said JICA contributes to financing a wide range of projects in Egypt, most notably in the tourism, education and health sectors, as well as energy, water resources and transportation projects that help adapt to and mitigate climate change.
JICA has been providing support for Egyptian development efforts since the mid-1950s with a cooperation portfolio with the country estimated at nearly $9 billion, including $2 billion in the form of grants and technical cooperation.
The official added that JICA is the Japanese government’s agency responsible for official development assistance, such as technical cooperation, financing, investment cooperation, and grants.
“We are very proud of the large cooperation portfolio with the Egyptian government, which is directed according to the government’s needs and priorities,” he said. “There is no doubt that Egypt is the cornerstone of regional security and stability.”
