Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan el Khatib asserted that the Egyptian government went a long way in implementing the comprehensive economic reform plan via applying an economic roadmap that includes urgent steps and necessary structural reforms that contributed to restoring Egypt’s position on the global economy map and improving the classification of the Egyptian economy.
This came during Khatib’s speech in the golden jubilee of establishing the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) in presence of a number of ambassadors and representatives of international organizations.
The measures taken by the Egyptian government in the field of setting the investment atmosphere contributed to making Egypt one of the most important destinations of regional and international investments, he said, adding that investments also contributed to making the indexes of the Egyptian economy positive including the decrease in the budget deficit, increase in local production, decrease in unemployment rates and the improvement of trade balance deficit.
The GOEIC represents a main axis as part of the strategy of the Ministry of investment and Foreign Trade that aims at promoting foreign trade of Egypt and achieving the goals of the ministry’s plan, he noted.
The ministry is keen on improving the system of services presented to the community of exporters and importers, he said, adding that the GOEIC is working on facilitating the trade movement and lifting obstacles facing Egyptian exporters via being committed to implementing the latest systems and rules followed internationally to contribute to facilitating foreign trade movement between Egypt and the different global markets.
The ministry is preparing a future vision for policies of investment and trade in 2024 until 2030, he said, adding that the vision aims at prioritizing manufacturing for export purposes and deepening the added value in Egyptian exports.
Khatib asserted keenness of the ministry on presenting all aspects of support to the business community and facilitating all challenges to contribute to the flow of the foreign trade movement of Egypt.
Meanwhile, GOEIC Head Essam el Naggar said that the GOEIC plays a pivotal and distinguished role in presenting technical support to local producers and manufacturers in addition to contributing to increasing the competitiveness and capability of Egyptian products for exports.
