Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk announced that official wheat procurement season will begin on April 15 across all governorates.
The government has set the price at EGP 2,200 per ardab, a rate that exceeds the cost of imported wheat and aims to encourage local farmers while strengthening national food security.
The minister launched the 2025 procurement season from Tamya silo in Fayoum, where harvest started early due to the region’s desert climate.
On the first day, 70 tons of new local wheat were received. The ministry has ensured equipped and approved delivery points, with daily monitoring to maintain smooth operation.
