Egypt’s Cabinet Media Center has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that food imports containing levels of radiation are being allowed into the country, stressing that no such shipments are permitted to enter under any circumstances.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the center said it had contacted the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), which confirmed that all food imports are subject to a comprehensive inspection system in line with the latest international food safety standards, under the supervision of relevant authorities.
The NFSA stressed that shipments undergo precise scientific testing, including radiation measurement, based on an approved risk assessment system. It added that 100% inspection and testing are applied to imports from countries or regions classified as high-risk in terms of radiation.
The NSFA further clarified that if any shipment is found to be contaminated with radioactive materials—even if within limits permitted in some countries—it is immediately rejected and re-exported from the port of entry, with no circulation allowed in the local market.
The NFSA reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy, stating that no level of radiation is permitted in imported food, while continuing to carry out its regulatory role with strictness and transparency to safeguard public health.
