Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hussein Eissa, has affirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining macroeconomic stability through disciplined fiscal and monetary policies, strengthened economic governance, and expanded support for the private sector.
During a meeting with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt, Chitose Noguchi, Eissa commended the long-standing partnership between both sides, referrring the UNDP as a key development partner supporting Egypt’s efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic growth.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad for International Co-operation, Samar El-Ahdal, the Assistant Resident Representative and Director of Climate Change and Environment Programmes at UNDP Egypt, Mohamed Bayoumi, and the Policy and Partnerships Team Manager at UNDP Egypt, Reham Youssef, attended the discussions.
As the meeting started, Eissa stressed that the government’s economic strategy places strong emphasis on empowering the private sector and increasing its participation in economic activity, with the aim of improving competitiveness, productivity, efficiency and transparency across various sectors.
He also highlighted the importance of the State Ownership Policy document in reinforcing the role of the private sector as a principal partner in driving growth, creating jobs, and enhancing the global competitiveness of the Egyptian economy.
Eissa further reviewed ongoing structural reforms targeting economic bodies and state-owned enterprises, aimed at improving institutional performance, raising efficiency and ensuring the financial sustainability of public assets.
He also underscored the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and expanding the role of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, noting that entrepreneurship represents a cornerstone of development.
He added that state institutions are working to simplify procedures, provide incentives, and create an enabling environment for startups.
For her part, UNDP’s Noguchi, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s development efforts and reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to strengthening co-operation in support of national priorities.
She outlined the organisation’s continued support for the Sustainable Development Goals through work on economic governance, structural reform, development financing, private sector development, green transition initiatives and institutional capacity-building.
She also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, as well as initiatives supporting renewable energy, including a 200-megawatt solar power project. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to improving living standards and advancing inclusive development.
