Minister of Labor Mohamed Saafan approved Friday the payment of 297 million Egyptian pounds in salaries to 127,000 tourism workers.
This amount of money is disbursed within the government’s financial aid to tourism workers as part of its response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The plan is ordered by President Abdel Fattah ElSisi whose administration decided to pay the salaries of tourism workers affected by the pandemic.
Saafan, the head of Aid Fund of the Ministry of Labor, said the fund had disbursed 200 million Egyptian pounds initially to 192,000 workers at 2,764 tourist establishments.
He added that the fund then disbursed 371million to 175,000 workers at 2,655 tourists establishments.
The fund, he noted, aims to offer support to tourist establishments that have stopped paying the salaries of their workers because of the pandemic.
We will continue to support these establishments until they get over their difficulties and return to normal activity, the minister said.
