CAIRO – The Egyptian Cabinet’s media center has denied reports alleging that the State intends to privatize the higher education system in line with its expansion in the establishment of non-profit national universities (Ahleya Universities).

In a statement released on Friday, the center said it has contacted the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research which dismissed such reports.

The ministry stressed that the State owns the education sector and has no intention to privatize it.

The State is committed to upgrading education in its various stages, the ministry noted.

In this regard, the center urged all media outlets and social media users to verify the authenticity of any news before publishing baseless information that may cause confusion among citizens.
