Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, held a video meeting with Annika Eriksgaard, Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission, to continue discussions on Egypt’s structural reform programme tied to a €4 billion support package.

The talks focused on key reforms the Egyptian government plans to implement under the second phase of the Macroeconomic and Budget Support Mechanism.

These reforms aim to strengthen economic stability, improve the investment climate, and support the transition to a green economy.

The two sides also discussed preparations for an upcoming visit by a European Commission delegation to Egypt at the end of May to finalize procedures for the release of the second tranche of funding.

Al-Mashat highlighted the progress in Egypt-EU relations since their March summit, emphasizing the strategic partnership and ongoing coordination between both sides. She stressed the importance of international cooperation in supporting Egypt’s development goals and advancing its economic reform agenda.

In December, the European Commission approved €1 billion in funding to Egypt under the first phase of the €5 billion support program.
