CAIRO – The Egyptian Cabinet media center denied news on tasking foreign companies or ports with the management of navigation in the Suez Canal.

In a statement on Friday, the center said that it had contacted the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), which categorically refuted the news.

The Suez Canal and its administration will remain wholly owned by the Egyptian State and is subject to its sovereignty, the statement said.

It made it clear that the entire staff of the SCA, including employees, technicians and administrators, will remain Egyptian citizens.

The waterway achieved a growth rate of 23.6% during the month of May, compared to the same month last year, according to the statement.

The transit toll for ships also increased by 12% in May, the statement said.

Recently, Energean Power; the newest floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) in the world, has successfully passed the Suez Canal. It has been the first time for an FPSO to pass the Suez Canal ever.

Senior SCA guides have directed the Energean Power in its first sea voyage heading to the Mediterranean. The crossing lasted about 26 hours.

It is one of the unconventional crossing experiments as the FPSO was the largest unit to cross the canal, which needed complex navigational arrangements and measures over several days.

The media center urged all media outlets and social media followers to be accurate in releasing news and to review the official website of the Suez Canal Authority before publishing any news and report any rumors to it.
