The Cabinet’s media center has officially denied rumors circulating on social media and certain anti-state outlets about the potential sale of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). In a statement issued on Thursday, the centre dismissed these reports as baseless.
The media center emphasised that recent claims suggesting the government plans to sell the GEM after restructuring its board of trustees are false. It condemned these allegations as part of a broader effort to provoke public unrest and confusion.
The GEM, which is currently in a soft-opening phase, allows visitors to experience key attractions, such as the Hanging Obelisk Plaza, the atrium with the colossal Ramses II statue, and the Grand Staircase. The museum is slated for an official inauguration in 2025, reflecting the government’s commitment to preserving Egypt’s cultural heritage.
