CAIRO – The Egyptian cabinet’s media center denied reports about poisoned watermelon, peach and tomato in markets nationwide.

In a statement, the center said it communicated the Ministry of Agriculture which dismissed the news as baseless.

The ministry underlined that all agricultural products in the markets are safe and free from any pesticides or chemicals.

The ministry stressed that the products are meticulously tested by authorities monitoring Egyptian food commodities.

The ministry said that all needed legal measures will be taken against those purporting fake news.

Within this context, the ministry said it is exporting 350 kinds of agricultural products into more than 150 countries and there is no ban on Egyptian exports. This proves the high quality of the products.

It urged all media and social media users to verify the authenticity of the news circulated.
