The Egyptian media center of the cabinet denied on Sunday that there is shortage of white rice on markets.
In a statement, the center said it contacted the Supply Ministry that dismissed as groundless such reports.
The ministry stressed that all basic commodities are available on markets, including white rice, saying that sufficient amounts of rice are pumped into markets across the nation.
The ministry said white rice is sold in cooperatives at LE 10.50 while is sold in trade chains at LE 12 to LE 15.
It added that the country has a strategic reserve of rice sufficient for one year.
It urged all media outlets to verify the authenticity of any reports pertaining to the availability of basic commodities before publishing them to avoid disrupting public order.
