Egyptian Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawi issued directives on Thursday for local authorities to be on high alert amid a wave of bad weather in some governorates.
The directives came after the Meteorological Authority forecast a state of instability in weather conditions and rain falling on a number of governorates, especially coastal governorates.
Sharawi instructed the Local Development Ministry’s operations room to follow up on the developments of the situation in all governorates round the clock.
The minister received a report stating that the governorates of Alexandria and Matrouh have suspended school classes due to bad weather and heavy rains.
The minister urged enhancing coordination between all service and vital sectors in the governorates, especially drinking water and sanitation companies, traffic departments and civil protection and health, to clean up rainwater from streets to avoid any disruption of traffic
