Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbaj on Tuesday reviewed means to provide Sudan humanitarian aid.
The minister took part in a video conference during the emergency meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs.
Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam Bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Arab League Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector Haifaa Abu Ghazala.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan, Egypt has pledged to stand by the Sudanese people and government and has called on the belligerents to stop the fighting, the minister said.
Egypt is working round the clock to secure safe passage for humanitarian and relief aid, while ensuring the safety of Arab communities and their evacuation through the Egyptian-Sudanese border, the minister added.
Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers are working with the Sudanese Red Crescent, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Egyptian Embassy in Sudan in relief efforts.
The Ministry of Emigration is co-operating with the authorities concerned and during the past few days has been preparing transport to evacuate Egyptian expatriates from Sudan.
The Egyptian Red Crescent has conducted 329 transfers from the Egyptian-Sudanese border, 565 medical checkups for evacuees and offered 20,000 meals.
The Red Crescent is also targeting female students and Arab communities on social media to explain security and safety procedures.
