Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Wednesday met with Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel-Aty to follow up preparations for the 4th Cairo Water Week 2021 on 24-28 October.
The event, ‘Water, Population and Global Variables: Challenges and Opportunities’ will be held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Senior water sector officials, scientists and civil society organisations will be among the host of participants at Cairo Water Week, Abdel-Aty said.
This event comes within the framework of the state’s interest in the water file and placing it at the top of the political agenda as one of the most important requirements for sustainable economic and social development, Abdel-Aty added.
Discussions will deal with sustainable solutions to manage water resources, to deal with rising population and climate change.
Madbouli also reviewed the issue of encroachments on the nation’s waterways and their removal.
The premier emphasised close coordination between various state agencies to remove encroachments and take all legal action to ensure there will be no recurrence of this phenomenon.
Abdel-Aty referred to his ministry’s continued efforts in dealing with infringements on waterways, the removal of all backfilling, and violations of waterways on the Rosetta and Damietta branches.
