Egypt’s the “Gates of Mecca” documentary, produced by the Ministry of Social Solidarity, will represent Egypt at the official contest of the Spanish international film festival Offcinedoc, scheduled to end in Madrid today.

Directed by Mohanad Diab, Advisor of Visual Documentation at the ministry, The “Gates of Mecca” depicts the story of the first Egyptian rural pioneer who could, through her social work and passion to help women in her village in Aswan, and various governorates, change misconceptions.

The documentary portrays an Egyptian lady, who managed to overcome challenges and make her name an icon in the field of social work in Aswan.

The “Gates of Mecca” wonthe Best Documentary Award at the 2021Cinephilia Festival in Pakistan, and the Best Impact Film at the 2022Aswan Women’s Film Festival. It is expected to take part in more festivals this year.

According to an official statement, the Ministry of Social Solidarity owns a library ofabout 78 documentaries, in which the targeted groups speak for themselves.

These documentaries are employed by social media as tools for dialogue with keyintellectuals and thinkers.

Many of these movies have won several awards in various festivals.
