Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea asserted the need for linking the market needs of prosthetics and orthotics with the learning outcomes especially at the university level, calling for establishing new departments to train skilled technicians on dealing with such devices.
This came during Gamea’s first meeting with the taskforce committee assigned by presidential directives to consolidate efforts of all parties concerned to enhance the local manufacturing of prosthetics and orthotics in order to be available with good quality and affordable prices to serve the disabled persons and ease their burdens.
She also reviewed with the committee the requirements needed to develop such market whether through manufacturing processes or the supply chain, adding that exports of prosthetics and orthotics during 2020 reached to dlrs 48.6 million.
She also said that the committee’s work outcomes will be a cornerstone for a proposed national project to establish an industrial complex for prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing drawing on the international expertise and major international companies.
