CAIRO- Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Nivine Gamea stressed the Egyptian state’s keenness on enhancing economic co-operation with Sudan in various domains.
She made the remarks on Wednesday while co-chairing with her Sudanese counterpart Amal Salih the Egyptian-Sudanese trade committee which convene in Cairo for two days.
Gamea underlined the importance of enhancing bilateral co-operation to remove any obstacles hampering trade exchange between the two countries.
She noted that the volume of trade exchange between the two sides shot up by 60 per cent hitting dlrs 1.165 billion in 2021 against dlrs 725 million in 2020.
She highlighted the key role played by the joint committee as it offered an opportunity for continued contacts between the two countries, thus contributing to enhancing economic co-operation, especially in the current stage.
She underlined the importance of mobilising efforts at the local and regional levels to confront the current international economic challenges.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese minister said the committee meetings came at an important timing, reflecting the historic and strategic ties between Egypt and Sudan.
She stressed preparedness of the two countries to rally up efforts, especially in view of the current international economic crises.
She highlighted the positive role of the committee in enhancing co-operation.
She accentuated the importance of development trade co-operation between the two countries, especially through facilitating businessmen movement and trade flow.
She added that there is a great chance before Egyptian exports in the Sudanese market, underlining the importance of co-operation in exchanging expertise and training.
The two ministers witnessed the inking of a memorandum of understanding for enhancing bilateral co-operation.
The committee’s coming meeting will be held in the first half of 2023 in Khartoum.
