Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Kabbag had paid a three-day visit to Beirut along a high-profile delegation from Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs.
During the visit, she discussed with senior officials ways to support the Lebanese people and civil institutions.
During her meeting with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Minister Kabbag affirmed Egypt’s full support for Lebanon as per directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The minister reviewed Egypt’s experiences in social support for the most vulnerable groups.
El-Kabbag said her ministry is ready to transfer expertise to Lebanese social institutions with regard to caring for orphans, people with disabilities, women, the elderly and those recovering from addiction.
Lebanon has a lot of natural wealth, which should be invested in building human resources and carrying out various development projects, el-Kabbag said.
She said that she was confident that the Lebanese people would return stronger than before and attain greater prosperity and development for their country.
El-Kabbag also met Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri to review Egypt’s experience in social protection programmes of recent years, especially with regard to the cash support system for those most in need.
Arab countries are going through a difficult stage that requires the expansion of social justice practices, she said, adding that the private sector and civil society should share in social protection.
For his part, Berri hailed Egypt for its role in supporting Arab countries, chiefly Lebanon, to achieve stability, security and development.
