Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry said on Monday that Gastec and Cargas companies converted 800 taxis in Aswan to run on natural gas instead of gasoline as part of celebrations of the governorate’s National Day.
In a statement, the ministry said conversion of vehicles from gasoline to natural gas comes in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives in this regard.
The initiative is carried out in the governorate in co-operation with the Interior Ministry.
Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla issued directives to encourage residents of Aswan to use natural gas as a fuel for their vehicles through dispatching a mobile station to supply 500 vehicles with natural gas daily, the statement said.
He also directed accelerating the establishment of eight new natural gas stations in the governorate. The stations are likely to be finalised gradually starting from the end of this month till the end of first quarter of 2022.
This will bring to nine the number of natural gas stations in the governorate.
