Some 50,000 vehicles have been converted to operate on dual fuel between July 2022- March 2023, bringing the total number of the vehicles that have been converted since that start of the conversion initiative to 500,000.

The number of centers for converting cars to run on natural gas has reached 130 nationwide, out of which nine have been recently operated.

The strategy of turning cars to operate on natural gas has been unprecedentedly expanded, in light of presidential and governmental support throughout the past two years to boost the rate of vehicles conversion as well as the number of dual fuel stations across the country, said Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el Molla on Tuesday.

Up to 61 natural gas fuel stations have been set up between July 2022- March 2023, taking the number of operating natural gas fuel stations nationwide to 688, while the operation of 221 other stations is still underway, according to an annual report on the vehicles conversion received by the minister.

The initiative targets establishing 1,000 natural gas fuel stations nationwide, the report added.
