CAIRO – Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad on Monday attended the signing of a protocol of co-operation between the Environmental Affairs Agency (EAA) and the Lions Clubs International (LCI) to boost the role of the civil society in promoting behavioural change towards environment protection, caring for natural resources and overcoming climate change impacts.
On the sidelines of inking the protocol, Fouad said it comes as part of utmost keenness on backing civil society initiatives for sustainable development and providing decent life for citizens in co-operation with LCI.
LCI is a service, civic, non-political organisation with thousands of members nationwide. It is involved in community service to help improve the lives of people, and promotes the principles of good government and good citizenship.
It is concerned with boosting environment protection and society service in realising sustainable development fields.
The protocol aims to collaborate on environmental activities and encourage citizen participation such as the clean-up of the Nile, greening and tree planting programs and solid waste management, she further said.
Fouad said the two sides will co-operate in organising symposiums and workshops and launching campaigns to raise the level of awareness of the public and fostering behavioural change towards the effects of their activities on the environment.
