Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbaj received Executive Director of Belgian Foundation FACE for Children in Need to discuss co-operation. This came in accordance with the governments concern for alternative care and national strategy for alternative care.
El-Qabbaj reviewed the plan to expand the system of sponsorship of children in alternative foster families. She said that the ministry completed the development of the information knowledge structure of the children’s alternative care system.
She added that they move towards increasing foster families, based on right of children to security, compassion, tenderness, safe housing, and integrated care for their development, health and psychological safety. The total number of foster families is more than 14,000 taking care of 14,300 children.
They agreed to open the first model classification centre for children before their sponsorship from alternative families, in the area of May 15. The centre aimed to serve the Greater Cairo area.
