CAIRO – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates said that the final communiqué of the Third African Union-European Union Ministerial Meeting, held on 21 May 2025 in Brussels, reviewed progress made in implementing the Joint Vision for 2030.
The ministry highlighted in a statement on Friday that this vision aims to establish a renewed partnership between the African and European sides and serves as a precursor to the seventh summit between the two parties, scheduled to take place in Africa in 2025, marking the 25th anniversary of their partnership.
The foreign ministry further highlighted that the communiqué acknowledged the European Union’s briefing on the African Union’s endorsement of Dr. Khaled El-Anany as its candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO for the 2025–2029 term.
“This endorsement reflects a continental consensus on the importance of African representation in this prominent international role and the confidence of African leaders in the Egyptian candidate’s ability to advocate for the continent’s priorities within UNESCO,” the statement read.
The ministry noted the growing international support for Egypt’s nomination, most recently underscored by the formal endorsements announced last week by Austria and Slovakia.
