Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, Ambassador Mosaad el-Gohary, affirmed today that all relevant departments and Egyptian consulates worldwide have been directed to expedite passport issuance procedures without undue bureaucracy, stressing the need to establish an efficient and well-regulated system for issuing travel permits.
His remarks came in implementation of directives issued by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Dr Badr Abdel-Aati, which aim at facilitating procedures and enhancing services provided to Egyptians living abroad.
Ambassador El-Gohary explained that efforts to reduce passport processing times are supported by the approved development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Magnetic Passport Issuance Centre within the designated timeframe.
The plan includes printing approximately 12,000 passports per month abroad by 2025, in addition to issuing 4,662 machine-readable passports for newborns. He further noted that a comprehensive plan is underway to accelerate passport issuance in countries hosting large Egyptian communities, particularly in the Arab region, with processing times in some locations targeted to be reduced to less than one week.
The assistant minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining these improvements, minimising procedural constraints, and continuously enhancing consular services to better serve Egyptians abroad.
