CAIRO- Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Saturday raised alarm over launching any Israeli military operations on the Palestinian city of Rafah, saying it will have massive negative impacts at all levels.

Shoukry made the remarks during a meeting with Mauritania’s Minister of National Defense Hanena Ould Sidi for talks on means of boosting aspects of cooperation, on the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference 2024 (MSC).

Shoukry congratulated the Mauritanian side on winning the presidency of the African Union and underscored Egypt’s support to the Northwestern African country during its chairmanship of the African bloc, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The foreign minister said he is looking forward to holding the Egypt-Mauritania joint committee during the first half of 2024 in Mauritania.

Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s visions regarding the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip as well as Egyptian efforts to de-escalate the situation, reach a ceasefire deal and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to the war-ravaged enclave.

He highlighted Egypt’s unwavering stance towards the necessity of avoiding risks of expanding the scale of conflict, the spokesman said.

Shoukry and Ould Sidi exchanged visions as regards the current situation in Sahel and Sahara areas and prospects of boosting cooperation in confronting terrorism as well as security challenges facing the region, according to the spokesman.

They underlined the significance of countering such challenges through outlining a comprehensive vision dealing with the extremist thoughts by spreading the moderate ones.

Meanwhile, the Mauritanian top diplomat praised the depth of brethren relations between Egypt and Mauritania, asserting Mauritania’s full support to Egypt’s welfare within all frameworks as well as inside the AU. (MENA)
